Vin De France

Vin De France conveys a simple message. By allowing producers to blend the finest grapes from different parts of France, the focus is on the grape variety (ies) and therefore on the flavour. Wines in this category can be made by artisan producers or wine designers but they are above all creative and promote a different idea of wine, one that is genuine and accessible.

Vin De France is a more evocative and accessible designation

The wines allow winemakers and growers to get their creative juices flowing. Mixing tradition and innovation, reinventing the classics and breaking the mould are some of the aspirations of their aficionados keen to indulge in the ultimate experience.

Vin De France is a more evocative and accessible designation.

Vin De France gives you access to French wine expertise, in the simplest of ways. It encompasses red wines laden with fruit, fresh whites and moreish rosés. From a practical perspective, the wines are available in the finest wine merchants and restaurants, but also in supermarkets in France and beyond.

LIBERTY, QUALITY, CREATIVITY, DIVERSITY & ACCESSIBILITY

The key to success of Vin De France wines

Vin De France has become a full-fledged category with a unique genetic make-up

Vin De France has become a full-fledged category with a unique genetic make-up. If you had to sum up the designation in a single word, the appropriate description would be ‘liberty’. Its primary quality does not stem from its region of origin or a strict set of specifications but in the freedom it offers winemakers and winegrowers to get their creative juices flowing.

Free to craft new flavour profiles, they can combine a single grape variety grown in several regions or native grapes with more familiar French varieties, or even several complementary grape varieties. For instance, the powerfulness of a Cabernet-Sauvignon can be combined with the velvety feel and finesse of a Merlot. The art of achieving this fusion of grape varieties is called blending.

Vin De France is therefore the ultimate ‘creative playground’ for these genuine artists who craft harmonious, easy-drinking wines.

The wines convey an accessible, clear message through a name, one or several grape varieties, an origin and French expertise. Their accessibility is further enhanced by their excellent value for money. Consequently, for over ten years, they have been successful across the globe. Each grape variety brings different aroma and flavour characters. Its name is clearly stated on the label so that you can easily find your way around and choose the wine that suits your tastes. ‘Each to their own grape variety, each to their own tastes’.The diversity of producers reflects that of the category itself: large and small, they come from every branch of the industry – vintner-negociants, co-operatives and independent wineries. All these wines share the same expertise combining tradition and innovation.

Social Wall VDF

The national denomination for varietal wines

Vin De France - VDF is a national classification created in 2009 in Europe following changes in the regulations about the European nomenclature of wine categories, also known as the Common Market Reform. This represented a new generation amongst French wines. VDF has become the national designation for France, and as such is complementary to both PDO (AOC) and PGI wines.

French designations (PDO, PGI, VDF) are complementary and offer basic, premium and super premium wines.
